SAFETY

 SimsGas considers safety as a vital component. We have an experienced Technical services team we offer safety   training and advice to all team members. In addition to this, all our drivers undertake a tank or cylinders safety check at each delivery, and any safety issues are immediately reported back to the technical services team for matter onhand to be attended to.

FIRE
  • Evacuate the building.
  • Turn off the gas supply at the emergency stop valve if it safe to do so.
  • Advise the Fire Officer of the existence of an LPG gas tank on the premises.
  • Contact SIMS GAS for assistance.
GAS LEAK
  • Should a gas leak occur, it is likely that it will be first noticed by the smell. Turn off the supply at emergency and main stop valves.
  • Extinguish all naked lights and sources of ignition - NO SMOKING.
  • Open doors and windows. Beware that LPG is heavier than air and will collect at the lowest levels
  • Do not switch electrical appliances on or off - NO MOBILE PHONES.
  • Contact you installer for internal leaks and appliance problems.
OUT OF GAS
  • Turn off the main stop valve.
  • Make sure all appliances are turned off.
  • Contact SIMS GAS for replacement.
  • Afte delivery, turn on the shut off valve.
  • Follow the appliance re-lighting procedures.
APPLIANCE BREAKDOWNS
  • In the event of an appliance not operating correctly, turn off the gas and electricity supplies to it and contact your installer for assistance.
SAFE OPERATION OF LPG INSTALLATIONS
  • There should be NO SMOKING and no ignition sources near the LPG vessel or tank.
  • Do not allow rubbish or flammable materials to accumulate around the LPG cylinder.
  • Keep foliage from the LPG cylinders or obscure any signs or labels attached to it.
  • Keep access to the LPG area at all times.
  • Arrange for regular servicing of all your LPG appliances including flues.
  • If the premises are to be left unattended for a long period, turn off the gas supply at the emergency stop valve.
SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR THE SAFE OPERATION
  • Bottles must be used upright to ensure that vapour rather than liquid is used.
  • Bottles must be located out of doors, in a well ventilated position against a building, wall or structure, on firm level ground.
  • Bottles must not be located in cellars, basements or sunken areas. LPG appliances also must not be installed in cellars or basements.
  • Bottles must be accessible, must not cause obstructions and, where necessary,must be protected from accidental damage or interference by persons,animals or vehicles.
  • Change-over devices and regulators, etc. must be as close as practical to the bottles and the flexible connections kept as short as practical without causing strain on the hose, etc.
  • Bottles must not be located within 1 metre (measured horizontally) or 3 metres (measured vertically) from any opening in the building wall. Eg, windows, doors,air bricks, flues or ducts.
  • Bottles must not be located within 1 metre (measured horizontally) or 3 metres (measured vertically) from fixed sources of ignition, heat
  • sources, electrical equipment (except specially protected) or ignitable materials.
  • Bottles must not be located within 2 metres (measured horizontally) of drains (unless they are suitably trapped), gullies or openings to cellars. Alternatively a wall at least 2.50m high can be used as a diversion wall between the bottles and the relevant feature.
  • Bottles must not be located within 3 metres of any corrosive, toxic or oxidising materials. Alternatively a fire resistant barrier may be required.
  • The area around bottles should be kept clear of litter, long grass or anything else that is flammable.
